The Hunger Games

Who knew in March 2011 when John Galliano was shockingly dismissed as creative director for Dior that the wait for a replacement would be so long.... let alone so salaciously rife with rumours...

But after much speculation, and replacements ranging from Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, to Haider Ackerman and Phoebe Philo at one point... Raf Simons has been officially named as the new creative director for Dior (I am reserving belief until i actually see a collection and a bow on the runway... You know how fashion works)

Belgian Born Simons  was at the helm of Jil Sander for seven years,  presenting some of the labels most iconic and beautiful collections to date,  climaxing with his last three seasons which he called his 'Couture trilogy', an ironic warm-up for his new position at Dior.

His final collection, a flawless presentation of pure design, was touted by Tim Blanks as his 'best yet', A tough act to follow for his replacement,  namesake Jil Sander, who will be taking the reigns of the house for a third time.

All eyes will now be on Simons who is due to have his Dior debut with Fall couture in July.

Strawberry Freddo Blondes have more fun...

Whilst watching the regular riff raff trot up and down the catwalk this week, I was struck by a particulary delicious strawberry blonde....no.... make that....Strawberry Freddo blonde....

Charlotte Free has a head full of delicious fondant coloured locks....and for that, I appreciate her.

Red Carpet Roulette

With New York Fashion week making a wrap and...low and behold, the Emmy's taking place on Sunday (Monday Australia time), It is my favourite part of the season when Stylists are now hip and shouldering each other out of the way in a mad bid to secure the perfect gown for their celebrity clients (Dry cleaners literally rake it up this time of year removing the blood stains)

So will it be 'lady Luck' or just plain 'lady...Fuck....what was she thinking' when it comes to the final ensemble sauntering into the Emmy's?

Here are some front runners from New York S/S 2012....
All bets are on as to which side they will come out on...

Kings as Queens

You can’t help but feel slightly less than fabulous when you are in the same room as a drag queen.
First of all, all eyes are on her.   Mainly because the hair and make –up are more woman than you will ever be...not to mention the outfit...it’s likely to be a combination of body con, colour, risque, and sequins... in most cases, all four.
Yes, that’s right,  In the company of a drag queen you are going to wish you made a little extra effort, god knows, they did... and they have the balls (quite literally...unless post-op) to tell you, you should have.

Here are the four fabulous ladies we hope we are never in the same room as.
RuPaul

‘you....better.....work’

She has had a stage show, a music career, Television show, nothing can stop this one woman drag queen movement.
Rupaul came into mainstream in the early 90's with her talk-show, but is now hosting the very fabulous 'Rupaul's Drag Race' and the behind the queens look into the competition 'Rupaul's Drag Race: Untucked' in which Queens vie for the title of America's next Drag Superstar.

My favourite part is when contestants have a cocktail or two as they await judgment in the ‘interior illusions’ lounge or when two contestants battle it out by 'lip Syncing for their lives' which has seen many a queen lose their weave from cyclonic twirling or a fierce, eye watering, full split.

I'll give it to Ru, She's concise with the advice...put simply,
'Dont Fuck it up'

Courtney Act

When rejected from Australian idol, Shane Janek did didn’t get mad, he didn’t even get even, he just came back as the Fabulous Courtney Act and got voted in.
Sadly the winner that year was .... (who? or should I say 'who cares?' ) but it hasn’t stopped Courtney from cementing a career in heels.
With a number of touring stage shows and appearances, the divine Ms Act is also the face for sheer cover infomercials. And who better to get make up advice from than a drag queen? In queens we trust ladies.

Chloe

'Schtopp...I'm afraid I've mislead you with my sarcastic eye shadow and renaissance feather blouse by Alejandro Nisheyoki...'
Her quips about fashion, style, culture and being an 'It' girl have personally helped navigate my way through life.
Not only have have I discovered who is in, who is out and what should be on the menu at the time, but it has recently come to my attention that I,  mis-pronounce.
Words such as toast (toe-ast) , barbecue (bar-beh-kwa), birthday (birth-dee) and spring (sch-pring) have all been given new life.

I now know better.

Thank-you Chloe for Helping guide me through the mine-field that is life.
Dame Edna

As a child, Dame Edna was the embodiment of everything I wanted to be.... fabulous, a simple housewife with the ability to look down on others with such panache not to mention the never-ending supply of Gladiolas ...I mean...where do I sign up? She is literally An institution.... and did you see those glasses? I think we all know where Prada took cue from with the Baroque curlicue shades...
Make-up brand Mac also bowed to this queen by creating a line of  products in her name. I personally enjoyed the names 'Kanga-rouge' lipstick, 'Possum Nose pink' lip gloss and 'Varicose Violet' Nail polish. Nothing like a shade of polish to match your varicose veins....This Queen has thought of everything.
