Australian Fashion Week S/S 11-12

Rosemount Australia Fashion Week has just wrapped up for another year but what have we really learnt?
Don't get in the way of a busy fashion editor before he/she has had a coffee in the morning?
Eat when you get the chance, but never be seen doing it...no?
The higher the hair the closer to god? no? ...none of the above?

Ok, enough fashion week life lessons, lets see what the clothing has taught us about the upcoming Spring Summer season.

LACE

Ahhh lace, my eternal friend.  you never go out of style with your ladylike elegance throwing back to the days of high tea and society, bergamot and brioche.... But bitch is in the new millennium and lace has been vamped up for the modern day gal.

Sara Phillips gave us a number of looks of black lace shown over eye popping colour but also the following extended long sleeve shirt giving off a Morticia of the new millennium look....Lover were also strong supporters of the lace trend offering a number of looks among their very slick collection.
The proportions of lacework have also changed, becoming bigger and bolder, as seen at Zimmerman, with multiple looks using larger scale lace. While Toni Maticevski used Open lacework to create a more textural approach.

DUAL SPLITS

Leg maintenance for Summer just became a lot more intense with a slew of designers using skirts in varying lengths with thigh high slits, just when you thought you had it covered...you don't.

PRINT

Romance Was Born paved the way in this department showcasing the new, recession (is that still going on?) friendly, way to wear jewels...as print of course. Diamonds and pearls worn in excess in blouses, bodysuits and kimono style capes.
While Sara Phillips' playful take was like an Australian version of snakes and ladders. She replaced the ladders with textural floral natives like Banksia and Protea to create a McQueen/Escher like print.
Christopher Esber, whose debut collection last year had fashion people talking (I still cant get that cerulean laser cut pleated skirt out of my mind..Amazing...) used print in a witty way. Taking the image of a rose and baby's breathe corsage and printing it onto a sheer blouse...baby's breath has never been more chic.
While over at Josh Goot, we saw precise smears of paint shown against clinical white and black for maximum impact.

HIGH BUTTONED BLOUSES/ THE NEW NECKLINE

It's High, its proper and its here to stay, so get used to it.

A plethora of designers employed this trend into their
collections with secretary blouses buttoned to the neck in neutrals or bold colour blocking, sleeveless or with half sleeves...as long as it buttons to the neck,  its in.

Josh Goot had bold colour with demi sleeves while Dion Lee did it with a twist; high buttoned collar with decolletage reveal. Lover's treatment was much like the rest of the collection...Slick.

As for evening wear, Alex Perry interpreted the higher proportions through an ampersand neckline...but word of warning, you may want swan like proportions to match or risk being swallowed by the gown itself.

BOLD FUCK OFF COLOUR BLOCKING

Let's Face it, you need too know who you are before you wear some of these bold, in your face colours. Approach with care.

Take cue from Josh Goot or Karla Spetic and wear one bold hue from head to toe,(the suit option is a popular choice) Karla also paired it with bold Moroccan style print,  or proportion it evenly in parallel hues like at Bianca Spender.
Popular Colours have been electric blue, poodle pink, tangerine, retro lime green and vivid violet.
